What is a trademark?

A trademark is an intellectual property right on a sign that distinguishes your products and services from those of your competitors.

A trademark can be:
– a word, an emblem or a logo
– a three-dimensional shape
– a (combination of) colours
– a sound (jingle), a position, a motion, etc.

A trademark needs to be registered for claiming protection which can be endless in time, as long as the trademark is in use and the registration is renewed (mostly every 10 years).
