Head of Domain Name Department

Tom joined GEVERS Belgium in 2007 as Trademark and Domain Names Specialist. He started in 2001 as a Trademark Paralegal with Remarkable Europe, and over the years specialized in the protection of Trademarks as domain names on the internet and the management thereof.

Tom advises on the feasibility of registering new domain names and on the management of domain name portfolios for small, medium and large companies. He has extensive experience on how to compete with the launch of new top-level domains (TLDs) based on prior rights (the Sunrise period), and gives preliminary advice on domain name litigation. Tom is also experienced in advising clients on protecting trademarks in the Benelux area, the European Union and beyond.

Tom holds a Bachelor in Law from the Hogeschool Gent (Belgium) and started working in 2000 as a legal contract manager with an international technology firm. Having a high interest in IP, in 2001 he moved to the IP Department of Remarkable Europe. With the launch of the new domain name extension .eu in 2005, he started focusing on domain names and their relation to trademarks. He moved to GEVERS in 2007 following the integration of the IP Department of Remarkable Europe with GEVERS, and became head of the Domain Name Department of GEVERS in 2010.
