Conditions

Legal conditions depend on the TLD concerned. For some, the applicant needs to have a local presence in the country of the chosen TLD, to be owner of a corresponding trademark, or needs to introduce technical requirements through its webhost/provider before requesting registration.

For other applicants, the domain name needs to be:

  • composed of authorized signs, and
  • be available for registration, conforming to the principle “first come, first served”.

NB: When a new TLD is launched, the organisation in charge of managing and promoting the TLD can schedule a priority phase for trademark owners or any other holders of prior rights. This phase, commonly known as the “Sunrise” period, is dedicated to help prior rights holders to fight cybersquatting (in which a domain name corresponding to a trademark of another party is filed in order to benefit from the internet traffic or trademark reputation of the mark-holding company).

The GEVERS' way: We can inform you when a Sunrise period opens. We will indicate the registration criteria that may be linked to the chosen TLD, and advise you on the best way to obtain the domain name that you want.
